I visited in a 3rd grade class today and saw CRA in action again. Let’s backtrack a bit.  A couple of weeks ago during planning, one of my 3rd grade teachers literally broke out in hives at the thought of teaching 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication.  Probably the same way I’d feel about teaching poetry! Anyway, I decided to write the 3rd grade team a series of mini-lessons to guide them through teaching “big” multiplication using the CRA sequence of instruction.  Today, I got to see one of those mini-lessons in action. Pretty cool. Click here to grab the concrete mini-lesson. The complete lesson can be found at my TPT store.
